WHO IS IT?
The Giant of the Pampas is an amphibian popularly known as Horned Frog, Escuerzo or Untanha.
Its scientific name is Ceratophrys ornata.
It is large, reaching up to 13 cm, and has a robust body of green coloration with dark spots.

the project
The Giant of the Pampas is an initiative developed and executed by researchers and conservationists from Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil in response to population declines and local extinctions of the Horned Frog (Ceratophrys ornata).
Our objective is to carry out conservation and management actions for the species based on studies of distributional, genetic, reproductive and demographic aspects.
Over the last years we have been gathering new information on the species in the Argentine territory. These results could not have been obtained without the intervention and support of rural residents and citizens linked to the environments where the Giant lives.
The time has come to deepen the search strategies in Brazil and Uruguay! We hope that citizen participation will also be a vital component of the initiative in these countries.
